What Guys Really Want for Valentine’s Day

It’s not what you think… well, not completely.

Valentine’s Day. It's a day everyone hates, but no one is exempt from begrudgingly having to participate.

What to get the guy who has everything? (Photo by chase.wilson.photo on Unsplash)

Have you just started dating? You better get a card and flowers. Have you been a couple for a year? Cards, flowers, and really good chocolate. Married? Card, flowers, chocolate, and something hinting that, while sex would be really great, it’s not the only thing on my mind because that would be just like me, now wouldn’t it? (insert disappointed sigh)

As a guy, I have to admit two things:

One, we don’t really get why flowers mean so much to you ladies. We do it because we know you like it, but we don’t really quite understand the mechanics behind it. Cards say nice things. Chocolate is delicious.

But flowers? They are pretty, sure, but what about them are so powerful that they give us a get-out-of-jail-free immunity to minor infractions – like playing video games while you try to talk about your day?

The other is that, other than chocolate, none of that other stuff really matters to us. We appreciate the effort, but we don’t necessarily want it. It doesn’t mean to us what it means to you.
